Notice on Sensitive and Consumer Health Data

Some information collected through ReConnect Family's mood and emotion check-in features  such as emotion ratings, optional free-text notes, and context or “trigger” information  may be considered “consumer health data” under certain state laws (for example, the Washington My Health My Data Act and similar laws in other states), even though ReConnect Family is not a medical or therapeutic service and does not collect clinical or diagnostic information. Where these laws apply, we will:

  • Obtain your affirmative opt-in consent before collecting or processing this data, separate from your general acceptance of this Privacy Policy
  • Limit our use of this data to providing and improving the app's core features, and not use it for advertising or selling it to any third party

Not using geofencing around healthcare facilities in connection with this data

  • Allow you to withdraw consent and request deletion of this data at any time, separate from deleting your full account

If you are a resident of a state with a consumer health data law, you may have additional rights with respect to this category of data beyond those described in the “Your Rights” section below. Contact us using the information at the end of this policy to exercise those rights.

Information We Collect

We collect information in three ways: information you provide directly, information generated by your use of the app's features, and information collected automatically when using the app.

Information You Provide

You may provide personal information when you:

  • Create an account and join or create a family group
  • Complete onboarding (e.g., your primary focus areas and preferred check-in frequency)
  • Use features such as journaling, mood check-ins, the custody calendar, or the community feed
  • Contact us for support

Personal information we may collect includes:

  • Name (first and last)
  • Email address
  • Date of birth (used only to verify that users meet the minimum age requirement)
  • Account role (teen, parent/guardian, or admin) and family group or family code
  • General location, such as country or state, where provided
  • How you heard about ReConnect Family (referral source), where provided

Users may also create content within the app, including:

  • Journal entries, including optional video uploads
  • Mood and weekly emotion check-ins, including ratings, optional free-text notes, and context or trigger information you choose to share
  • Custody calendar events, including titles, dates, times, locations, recurrence patterns, and notes
  • Community posts, comments, likes, reports, and blocks
  • Saved resources and educational content

This content is stored so the app can provide its core functionality. Journal entries are private by default and are protected so that only you can access them. A teen may choose to opt in to sharing summary-level emotion check-in analytics with a linked parent or guardian; this sharing is off by default and can be turned on or off at any time in account settings by the teen.

ReConnect Family does not collect clinical, diagnostic, or medical information and is not a medical, clinical, or therapeutic service.

Automatically Collected Information

When you use the app, certain technical information may be collected automatically, including:

  • Device type
  • Operating system
  • IP address
  • App and page usage activity, including pages or screens viewed, session identifiers, and time spent in the app
  • Engagement events (e.g., which features are used)
  • Time and date of access
  • Error or crash data

This information helps us maintain app performance, troubleshoot technical issues, and improve the user experience. This analytics activity is collected and processed internally through our own backend infrastructure; we do not use third-party advertising or marketing analytics platforms.

How We Use Your Information

We use collected information to:

  • Provide the core functionality of the ReConnect Family app
  • Create and manage user accounts and family groups
  • Enable journaling, mood and emotion check-ins, the custody calendar, the community feed, and saved resources
  • Personalize reminders and prompts based on the preferences you select during onboarding
  • Allow a teen to optionally share summary emotion analytics with a linked parent or guardian, only when the teen opts in
  • Communicate with users regarding their account or support requests
  • Improve the reliability, performance, and usability of the app
  • Prevent fraud, abuse, or misuse of the platform
  • Maintain platform safety and security, including community moderation

Third-Party Services

ReConnect Family uses a limited number of named, trusted third-party service providers to support the operation of the app. We do not use third-party advertising SDKs, marketing analytics platforms, or crash-reporting services at this time, and ReConnect Family does not currently process payments.

  • Supabase – our backend hosting and database provider. Supabase stores account data, app content (journal entries, mood and emotion check-ins, calendar events, community posts), and supports user authentication. Supabase processes this data solely on our instructions and is bound by a data processing agreement and its own security commitments.
  • Capacitor – the application framework used to package ReConnect Family for iOS and Android and to schedule local reminder notifications. Notification scheduling happens directly on your device; no third-party push notification provider is used.
  • Google Fonts – standard web fonts loaded to display the app's typography. Fonts are cached locally by the app and are not used for tracking.

These providers may process limited information on our behalf solely to operate and improve the service and are contractually required to maintain appropriate privacy and security protections and to use ReConnect Family’s  data only for permitted  purposes. If we add or change a material service provider, we will update this section.

No Cross-App or Cross-Site Tracking

ReConnect Family does not track users across other companies' apps or websites. We do not share personal information with third-party advertisers, data brokers, or analytics networks for tracking or advertising purposes. We do not use the device's advertising identifier (IDFA).

Community Feed

ReConnect Family includes an opt-in moderated Community Feed where users can post and comment anonymously under a pseudonymous handle (e.g., “QuietRiver_42”). Other users only see your handle, not your real name, email, or any account identifier. All posts and comments are screened by an automated AI moderation system before becoming visible to others. Content that includes personal identifying information, harassment, hate speech, sexual content, or crisis-level language will be blocked, flagged for revision, or redirected to safety resources. Users can also report or block other users. Reports submitted by users are reviewed by administrators within 24 hours, and violating accounts may be restricted or suspended in line with our zero-tolerance policy on abusive behavior.

Anonymous handles are pseudonymous: administrators can trace a handle back to an account when required for safety investigations, legal compliance, or enforcement of our Community Guidelines.

Security of Your Personal Information

We take commercially reasonable steps to protect personal information from loss, misuse, unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction, including access controls that keep journal entries and other personal content private to your account. However, no method of electronic transmission or storage is completely secure. Users are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of their account credentials and, where applicable, their journal PIN.

Data Retention

We retain personal information only for as long as necessary to provide our services, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our policies. When personal information is no longer required, it will be securely deleted or anonymized.

Children's Privacy

ReConnect Family is not intended for children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under 13, we will delete that information and terminate the associated account, consistent with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). Teens ages 13–17 may use ReConnect Family with awareness and oversight from a parent or guardian.

Our Commitments to Teen Users

Because ReConnect Family's primary users are minors, we apply the following protective measures design choices by default:

  • We do not use teen users' data for targeted advertising, behavioral profiling, or to maximize time spent in the app
  • The Community Feed is off by default and requires an affirmative opt-in to use
  • Journal entries are private by default and are never visible to other users, including linked parents or guardians, unless the teen affirmatively chooses to share specific information
  • Sharing of summary emotion analytics with a linked parent or guardian is off by default and controlled entirely by the teen
  • We do not design or implement account or privacy settings in ways intended to discourage teens from exercising their privacy choices

Mental Health & Safety Disclaimer

ReConnect Family provides supportive tools such as journaling prompts, mood and emotion check-ins, and community connection.

ReConnect Family does not:

  • Provide mental health or clinical therapy
  • Offer clinical advice in any form, including treatment options
  • Diagnose or treat mental health conditions
  • Replace licensed mental health professionals

If you are experiencing a crisis,  are in immediate danger or are a threat to yourself or other, please contact a trusted adult, a licensed professional, or call 988.

Account Deletion

Users have the right to request deletion of their ReConnect  Family account and associated personal data.  Note that an adult may not delete their teen’s account, nor can a teen delete their parent’s account.

Users may delete their account at any time directly within the app:

  1. Open Settings from the bottom navigation (or the More menu)
  2. Scroll to the bottom and tap Delete Account
  3. Type DELETE to confirm — this permanently removes your profile, journal entries, mood and emotion check-ins, calendar events, community posts and comments, saved items, and any associated data.

You may also contact ReConnect Family support at the email address listed below to request deletion.

Once a verified deletion request is received, we will delete or anonymize the user's personal information within 45 days, unless retention is required for legal, security, or fraud-prevention purposes.

Your Rights

Regardless of where you live, ReConnect Family offers all users the following rights, which you can exercise using the contact information below or, where noted, directly in the app:

  • Right to know/access – request a copy of the personal information we hold about you
  • Right to correction – request that we correct inaccurate personal information
  • Right to deletion – request deletion of your personal data, including via the in-app self-service flow described above
  • Right to withdraw consent – withdraw any consent you previously gave, including consent to share summary analytics with a parent/guardian or, where applicable, consent to process consumer health data
  • Right to non-discrimination – we will not deny you access to ReConnect Family's features or otherwise penalize you for exercising any of these rights

We will respond to verified requests within 45 days, consistent with timelines required under laws such as the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA). If we need more time, we will notify you of the extension and the reason for it.

ReConnect Family does not sell personal information and does not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising, as those terms are defined under the CCPA/CPRA. Because we do not engage in these practices, no “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information” opt-out link is required; if this changes in the future, we will update this policy and provide that opt-out mechanism. If you believe we have not adequately addressed your request, you may have the right to lodge a complaint with your state Attorney General or other applicable data protection authority.

Rights of Parents and Guardians

Where a teen  is linked to a parent or guardian account, the following applies:

  • The teen, as the account holder, controls their own journal entries, mood and emotion check-ins, and community activity, and decides whether to share summary analytics with a linked parent or guardian
  • A parent or guardian may request access to, correction of, or deletion of their own account information,
  • In the event that ReConnect Family has mistakenly collected the information of a child under 13, and a parent becomes aware that the data has been collected, parents or guardians of children under 13 may review, request deletion of, or refuse further collection of their child's information at any time, consistent with COPPA

Right to Confidentiality

The teen and parent may voluntarily agree to sign the Confidentiality Agreement supplied by ReConnect Family on the app.  This is an agreement between the teen, and their parent and ReConnect Family is not a party to the Confidentiality Agreement. ReConnect Family’s functionality supports the teen’s confidential information in acccordance with this Privacy Policy. ReConnect Family will comply with applicable law by making any disclosures regarding any information provided on the app.

The ReConnect Family app may contain links to external websites or services that are not operated by us. These sites have their own privacy policies. We encourage users to review the privacy policies of any third-party websites they visit.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or legal requirements. Updates will be posted on this page with the updated revision date.
